Rhythm Eternal's Lead Teacher, Composer and Music Director:

Rhythm Eternal's Trustees and Board had a vision to establish a world-class music organization taught by some of the top performing artists in the contemporary generation. The Board found Anirban Roy Chowdhury, a brilliant and top Percussion Tabla Performing artist who has agreed to serve as head teacher and music director to conduct performances, bring together artists from Eastern and Western genres and educate students in the United States.

 

Bio: Anirban Roy Chowdhury was born into a family environ of music in the north eastern state of Assam (India). Anirban received his first instructions and initiation into music in his early childhood from his father, late Akhil Roy Choudhury -a noted musician of his time - as well as elder brother, Animesh Roy Chowdhury. Anirban’s soul enlivened with rhythm during days of formal education. The young maestro is at once the torch-bearer of the Punjab style of Tabla (percussion) playing, as well as an ace ambassador of Indian Classical Music as well.

 

Anirban Is one of the finest dynamic and promising products of the young contemporary generation of Tabla players. His music lineage hails from the renowned famous Punjab ‘Gharana’ school of Indian Classical music. He has trained extensively and derives his proud music education and lineage from renowned Punjab Gharana stalwarts, his first Guru was  Ustad Alla Rakha Khan, world renowned Tabla legend. His current teacher is Ustad Alla Rakha's son, percussion genius and considered God of Rhythm - renowned Maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain. In addition, Anirban also pays homage and respect to his other former teacher (with whom he trained for 12 years), Maestro Pandit Yogesh Samsi (all proud Punjab Gharana torch-bearers).

 

Anirban has performed globally with various artists and legends of Indian Classical music, as well as done numerous collaborations on the international festival circuit with various Western Musicians. Anirban was awarded the “Promising Young Musician of the Year” in May 2014 from Bihaan Music Industries, Kolkata, India. The Award was dedicated in the name of famous Ustad Karamatullah Khan Sahab – a doyen of the Farrukabad ‘Gharana’ style of Tabla.

Among Anirban's other honors was a prestigious performance at the famous Carnegie Hall on April 13, 2015 in a precious collaboration of the “Jaunpuri Raga” (an Indian Classical composition) with renowned western classical  pianist Kimball Gallagher, and Indian classical vocalist, Ustad Mashkoor Ali  Khan. 

 

Anirban is currently based out of New York/ New Jersey and travels actively to various countries for music concerts throughout the year. He is the the director of the Percussion department- Tabla, Performance and Tour Coordinator and Lead Teacher for various levels of students in the tri-state area for a unique music organization called “Rhythm Eternal”.

Rhythm Eternal was conceptualied in 2014 - and dedicated to the promotion of Classical music and Performing Arts in society while serving various philanthropic and health awareness causes. The organization's goal is to raise awareness for social causes, be involved in worthwhile educational and charitable initiatives via the medium of Music. The Board of Governors of Rhythm Eternal and their teacher (Anirban) believes in giving back to society and enriching the lives of people through the offering of music as medium of enlightenment, knowledge and therapy and works tirelessly to convey the message.

 

Rhythm Eternal's maiden concert was held on the prestigious stage of the G.D. Birla Auditorium in Kolkata, India on May 24th 2014 and culminated in a fantastic collaboration of world-renowned Indian Classical instrumentalist, as well as eminent vocalists coming together in a beautiful evening of spell-binding performances.

 

 

ANIRBAN -TEACHER and EXAMINER OF INDIAN CLASSICAL MUSIC STUDENTS OF VARIOUS SCHOOLS (ACROSS USA, GLOBALLY AND INDIA:

 

Anirban is a Sangeet Visharad (B.Mus) of Bhatkhande Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, and a Sangeet Nipun (M.Mus) of Bangiya Sangeet Parishad, Calcutta.

 

Keeping in line with the hallowed Mentor-pupil tradition of Indian music, he imparted training in Tabla for 5 years as a teacher at the Sangeet-Nartan Shikshapeeth (Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan) of Bombay, India. Anirban has taught hundreds of students over the last two decades as a senior tabla instructor at various university music departments as well as private institutes.

 

Anirban focuses on the technical and analytical components of tabla playing. Teaches the mathematics behind tabla compositions. He is the conductor and senior examiner for various music and dance schools across the USA, imparting various forms of music education to mainstream students. His knowledge of timing the beats of tabla and its superior skills are an invaluable instrument to judge a student’s proficiency and level of learning the art of  tabla playing (percussion) for style of indian dancing,

 

Performing Artist, Composer and Rhythmist

 

He has been invited in the past to offer a Master class to students in the percussion department of the prestigious Steinhardt School of music, NY University. The spell-bound and amazed students of western music avidly took away bits of Anirban’s music. They noted the transcendental nature of beats of Anirban’s renderings. Anirban’s tabla compositions in ‘teentaal’ (16 beats) and ‘Rupak taal’ ( 7 Beats ) can seamlessly gel with western djambe and drums. The students learnt the innovative ways of playing percussion instrument which they were never exposed to in the past. 

 

Anirban's career has spanned intensive music journeys throughout the United States, Canada, UK, Switzerland, Holland, France, Germany, the UAE and Bangladesh; all tours which established a young and dynamic ambassador of Indian music looking for vistas for holistic music collaboration everywhere. His solo tabla recitals at Stuttgart (Germany) and Mandappa (Paris) in 2002 earned him kudos. And the memorable Tabla Solo performances in 2007 at the World Bank and the IMF (Washington D.C), followed by those at the  Ustad Ali Akbar College of Music (San Rafael CA), Dartmouth College NH, New York University,   Kansas University, Rutgers University NJ, Maharishi University of Management (Farfield), IOWA Public Library (Cincinnati). Muhlenberg College PA and University of Pennsylvania are milestones in Anirban’s music journey.

 

Every year as part of an annual tradition of an advanced Tabla workshop and lecture series for a privileged and select few students of renowned maestro, Ustad Zakir Hussain, a music retreat is organized and held in California by the famous musician. Cut off from telephones, internet, Youtube and access to the outside world, students live and breathe music and compositions. Amongst them, Anirban has the sole honor of being invited to the retreat and being asked to demonstrate his playing skill in front of all students.

 

As a composer and collaborator, Anirban has been privileged to perform with leading Indian musicians like Anup Jalota, Ghulam Ali, Pankaj Udhas, Man Udhas, Pandit Tarun Bhattacharyya, Pandit Ramesh Mishra, Snehashish Majumdar, Purbayan Chatterjee, Pandit Dhruv Ghosh, Smt Aditi Upadhyaya, Smt  Kankana Banerjee, Pradeep Barot, Pandit Sudhindra Bhaumik, Alam Khan, Rakesh Chaurasia, Rupak Kulkarni, Pandit Dinkar Kaikini, Smt Shashikala Kaikini, Pandit Arvind Parekh, Rafat Khan Niyazi, Sitar maestro Ustad Shahid Parvez, legendary flute maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Grammy Winner), Grammy nominees Chandrika Krishnamurty Tandon, Sarod virtuoso Ken Zuckerman, Kavita Krishnamurthy (Playback singer) and Violin maestro L.
